A self-made engagement ring stands for exclusivity and personality. You get the chance to design a piece of jewellery that suits you perfectly and makes your proposal unique. Each ring is a masterpiece that carries your individual touch and is unrivalled in its uniqueness.
Engagement ring course - procedure
Making an engagement ring requires many individual steps, which you will learn about in our smithing course. In the ring forging workshop, the main focus is on having fun with the craft: while you discover the basics of the art of forging, you can develop your love of forging and create your own design. We will guide you step by step through the process - from casting and soldering to the final shape of your ring.
The workshop can be attended as an individual course alone, as a couple or with up to three people. At the end of the day, you will hold a unique piece of jewellery in your hand that you can take home with you. If you wish, you can also forging your own wedding rings or have other customised rings forged or made in a separate course.
Your ring size
To ensure everything goes smoothly, it’s best to bring along photos of your partner’s hand, as well as the ring diameter of a sample ring (as accurate as possible), and to think about which hand the ring will be worn on. This is particularly important if a stone is to be set in the ring, as it will then be more difficult to alter the ring’s size.
Another way to find out your ring size, or that of your partner, is simply to send us an email Mail and we will be happy to send you a ring sizer.
Forge your own sustainable engagement rings
Many participants bring along their old gold, which we can reuse for recycling and upcycling. Together we check how much of the precious metal can be used directly. Unused old gold is deducted from the total costs at the current purchase price. Particularly in the case of old family jewellery, which often carries a strong emotional meaning, the result is a ring that is not only individually designed and sustainably manufactured, but also carries the history and memories within it.
Forging your own engagement ring - costs
With our Ring cost calculator you can easily calculate the cost of your engagement ring yourself. You can see directly how the size, material and desired details affect the price and can find out in advance about the right dimensions and materials.
The total cost of your ring is not only influenced by the precious metal selected, but also by the Ring size and the fluctuating market prices of precious metals, which we use as the basis for our calculations. In addition, the cost of diamonds varies depending on their quality and size.
Forging engagement rings with engraving or gemstones
Standard engravings, which we carry out directly in our workshop, are already included in the course fee. For special laser engravings or additional gemstones, we work together with external service providers. We will discuss the extra costs involved with you individually.

FAQs: Make your own engagement rings
Do you have any further questions about Ringschmiede, or would you like more information on making your own engagement ring?
In our FAQs, you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions:
How long does the production take?
Our courses usually last 4-6 hours. You will complete your ring in this time - unless stones are used or special laser engravings are carried out.
Can I use scrap gold for my ring?
Yes, it should be yellow gold with a purity of at least 585 /-. However, it is important to understand that the value of your old gold is the purchase price and not the sales price that we use as the basis for the invoice.
Which material is best suited for self-forged engagement rings?
Various Gold alloys, platinum and silver are popular materials for hand-forged rings. The choice of material depends on personal preference.
Can I incorporate gemstones into my self-forged engagement ring?
Yes, you can have gemstones set into the ring you have forged yourself. We will discuss the details with you and then send the ring to a professional stone setter. Some types of setting for diamonds or brilliant-cut diamonds are very complex and cannot be realised directly in the course. In these cases, we concentrate on consultation and design during the workshop; the ring is then finished by us according to your ideas.
Will my self-made engagement ring look beautiful?
Yes, with us, every ring becomes a memento with its own individual touch. We cater specifically to your ideas and work on the ring until the result completely satisfies both you and us.
Do I need prior knowledge for a course?
No, you don't need any prior knowledge. We are on hand to help and advise you throughout the entire process.
Where does the precious metal come from?
We value sustainability and use recycled precious metal from traceable refineries. Many customers bring in old jewellery, which we upcycle where possible and incorporate into new rings. If the old gold is not used directly, its value is credited to the new rings at the current purchase price.
