PRECIOUS METAL ALLOYS
FUNCTIONALITY AND ART IN JEWELLERY
Here you can find out why we don't use pure precious metals for our rings and what makes alloys of precious metals special.
WHAT IS A PRECIOUS METAL ALLOY?
A precious metal alloy is a mixture of two or more precious metals that are fused together, i.e. alloyed (from the Latin ligare = "to bind, unite"), in order to optimise the physical and optical properties of the end product. Precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium are used to make jewellery, but as they are too soft in their pure form, they are alloyed.
PROPERTIES OF PRECIOUS METAL ALLOYS
The high-quality and diverse characteristics of different precious metal alloys make them ideal for various applications in industry, electronics and jewellery production.
Alloying is carried out by melting the precious metals and then shaping and processing them into jewellery, such as the production of our rings. The exact composition of the alloy can vary depending on the desired properties.
Precious metal alloys offer a wide range of possibilities in terms of design, colour, durability and price. They enable jewellery makers to create creative and unique pieces that are of high quality and long-lasting.
Alloying can triple the hardness of the material. We are happy to apply this knowledge in the manufacture of rings in our workshop, as hardening results in high resistance, i.e. resistance to wear and scratches. In this way, we ensure that our rings can withstand daily use, which means that the ring lasts longer and retains its shape and beauty for longer.
