WEDDING RING: WHICH HAND TO CHOOSE?

CULTURAL TRADITIONS EXPLAINED

The decision to wear the wedding ring on the left or right ring finger varies according to cultural and personal preferences. Here are some common traditions:

LEFT HAND

In many Western countries, including the USA, Canada, the UK and most European countries, the wedding ring is traditionally worn on the left ring finger. This is often attributed to the fact that the ancient Romans believed that a vein leading from this finger to the heart was known as the "vena amoris" or "vein of love". Although this idea is not medically correct, the tradition has survived.

RIGHT HAND

In some countries and cultures, for example in parts of Eastern Europe and in some Catholic countries such as Spain and Austria, the wedding ring is traditionally worn on the right ring finger.

Ultimately, the decision of which hand to wear the wedding band on is a personal choice. Some couples may choose to wear their rings on a particular hand for cultural or traditional reasons, while others may take into account their own preferences or their jeweller's recommendations, or simply depend on convenience or practicality. There is no hard and fast rule for this, and it is important that the couple make a decision together that suits them best.
