Understanding ring sizes internationally - comparison and conversion
How do I find the right ring size worldwide?
Anyone who orders a ring online or wants to give a ring as an international gift is often faced with the question: Which ring size corresponds to the German size in the USA, Great Britain or France?
In this guide, we show you how to compare and convert international ring sizes - and what you should look out for.
What does ring size mean?
The Ring size indicates how large the inner diameter or inner circumference of a ring is - and therefore how well the ring fits on the finger. The units of measurement and designations differ depending on the country:
- Germany, Austria & Switzerland: The inner circumference is usually given in millimetres (e.g. ring size 50 = 50 mm circumference).
- Great Britain: Letter codes are used (e.g. size M).
- USA & Canada: The sizes are indicated with numerical values (e.g. size 6).
- France: Here, too, the system is based on metric measurement, albeit with different gradations in circumference.
- China: Uses numerical values that are also based on the inner circumference (e.g. size 10, 11, 12 ...).
- Italy: Works with its own numerical system, which differs slightly from other European data.
- Australia: Like Great Britain, it is based on letter codes, but with different assignments in some cases.
- Switzerland: Uses its own numbering, which is similar to the inner circumference, but works with its own values (e.g. size 10, 12, 14 ...).
